Art

McCrary Elementary is home to many creative student artists who meet weekly to work hard and have fun creating masterpieces that we are excited to share with you.

Curriculum
The art curriculum at McCrary is disciplined based, meaning that it combines the four major disciplines of art: Art production (learning to make art), Aesthetics (using art vocabulary to talk about art and it’s purposes), Art criticism (evaluating artwork), and Art history (our cultural heritage). All projects are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Art Education and the curriculum is based on the National Art Standards which provide us with six areas of student learning, including:

1.The creative use of art media, techniques, and processes
2.How to use the elements and principles of art (line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and pattern)
3.How artists choose subject matter, symbols, and ideas for artwork
4.Historical and cultural aspects of artwork
5.How to evaluate our artwork and the work of others
6.How art is connected to other disciplines
7.Art lessons are also connected to themes, ideas, and skills taught in the classrooms. This approach helps students to find connections throughout society.
