Equity and Inclusion

Empower learners and leaders to embrace diversity and ensure equity.

Asheboro City schools will:
  • Ensure learners and leaders are seen, heard, and valued.
  • Provide resources and training to support growth and development regarding equity and social justice.
  • Engage in data-based problem solving with the goal of ensuring equity and access for all students.
A NEW! position, Director of Equity and Inclusion, has been established this year to enhance focus on eliminating systemic inequities and ensure systemic equity within our district. Robin Harris is now leading system-wide initiatives that measure and monitor diversity by collaboratively developing culturally sustaining practices that effectively meet the academic and social-emotional needs of each of our students. Ms. Harris’ equity-centered guidance is essential to the continuous improvement of conditions for teaching and learning to diagnose and assess equity within the culture, processes, policies, and systems within our school.  She serves as an advocate for stakeholders while gathering recommendations, suggestions, and feedback to respond to data results as well as current trends. Ms. Harris provides and coordinates professional development activities as well as resources to strengthen educator capacity in order to allow every student access to high quality education.
Ms. Harris has served Asheboro City Schools in various roles over her more than 16 years of leadership from Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Federal Programs to her current appointment. She has possessed many leadership positions in professional organizations with an equity emphasis at the local, state, and national levels. She has taken initiative in developing numerous external partnerships through targeted outreach.
Ms. Harris graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Elementary Education from North Carolina A&T State University. She earned a Master of School Administration, Curriculum and Instructional Specialist licensure, and a Specialist in Education degree from UNC-Greensboro. As a lifelong learner, Ms. Harris is finalizing work for a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations also at UNC-Greensboro.

ACS Equity Statement

Asheboro City Schools denounces racism, white supremacy, and hatred, and we affirm that Black lives matter. The district recognizes the phrase Black lives matter as an affirmation of the inherent value of the lives of our Black students, staff, and community members instead of a partisan or political statement. We are committed to treating all people as equals with respect and dignity at all times. We recognize that our differences don’t divide us, but make us stronger. While we know there is much work to do, the district’s Equity Team and the Race and Equity board policy were created to promote and encourage racial equity and social justice through education, reflection, partnerships, engagement, and advocacy.
