Second Grade Teachers
Second grade is a year where students gain confidence and independence. In reading, they begin to transition from “learning to read” toward “reading to learn.” They read longer texts with greater fluency and comprehension, while in writing they develop paragraphs and use correct grammar and punctuation. In math, students build fluency with addition and subtraction within 100, explore place value, and are introduced to early concepts of multiplication and division.
Second graders are also developing stronger social skills—learning to collaborate with peers, express their feelings in healthy ways, and take on more responsibility in class. By the end of the year, students are prepared to tackle the increasing rigor of upper elementary.
