Career Accelerator Summer Learning Opportunities

Program Description

The Summer Internship program is a work based learning opportunity for rising Asheboro High School Seniors made possible by the Asheboro City Schools Career Technical Education program through the Summer Career Accelerator grant. Qualified students will be paid a stipend of $1,560 for the month (July 11 – August 4, 2022), working at their job site eight hours per day, Monday - Wednesday each week, and six hours of required Workplace Readiness Skills Training each Thursday.

Students participating in the Summer Internship program will earn money while learning about the world of work through their summer jobs. On Thursdays, students will gather to learn about Workplace Readiness skills by completing the “Working Smart Curriculum.”  The summer jobs and the Working Smart Certification will be a great addition to the students’ resumes. Students completing all 120 hours can earn an Internship credit at Asheboro High School. There will be some additional requirements to meet in order to earn the Internship credit, but those will be built into the agenda on Thursdays.

In order to officially enroll in  the Summer Internship program, students must have a parent or guardian attend a required sign up meeting. This required meeting will be held two times on Tuesday, May 10. Families may attend an interest meeting from 12- 1 p.m. OR 5- 6:30 p.m. The following document will be required.

  • Drivers license or government issued photo identification

  • Social Security Card

Please be prepared to complete federal and state tax forms as well.
