Driver's Education

The North Carolina Driving School contracts with Asheboro City Schools to provide Driver Education to all eligible students.  Asheboro High School provides driver’s education to all students who attend school within the Asheboro City Schools attendance zone, including private and home school students.  State law requires that students are 14 ½ by the first day of class.

State law limits class size to no more than 50 students in a class.  Students should follow the link, located on this page, to sign-up for class.  Sign-ups will begin on a selected date at 8:20 a.m. and will end after the designated window.  After the sign-ups are completed, students will be sorted by birthdate with the oldest students being enrolled in the class.  Any student not getting into the class will need to sign up again during the next scheduled sign-up window.

Classroom Instruction

Classes are held in the Asheboro High School cafeteria.  Students will need to bring paper, pencil, black or blue ink pen, and a copy of their birth certificate.  Students are expected to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction.  To pass the class, students must score 70% or higher on the exit exam and they may not miss more than one class.

Behind the Wheel Training

The behind the wheel instruction is scheduled by birthdate with the older students going first.  Behind the wheel instruction will occur before school, after school, during holidays and on weekends.  Students must complete 6 hours of behind the wheel training.

Failure to Attend

If a student fails to show up for the first day of class without notifying Asheboro High School, the student will be removed from the class roster and the space will be given to the next person on the waiting list.  Due to class size limitations, if a student fails to show up for an assigned class, the student will have to wait 90 days before signing up again.

Sign-ups will begin at 8:20 a.m. on the start date.
