ACS Announces Remote Learning Academy for 2020-2021 School Year
ACS Remote Learning Academy

Asheboro City Schools is creating a new remote learning option for students for the 2020-2021 school year.  The Asheboro City Schools Remote Learning Academy is designed to provide K- 12 students with a personalized education option that offers flexible learning experiences that are also innovative and rigorous.

Dr. Wendy Rich said, “We have a robust school choice program that offers a variety of opportunities and learning environments meant to best meet the needs of all our students.  This new remote learning opportunity will add another layer to our academic offerings.  It is designed to meet the needs of students and families who desire access to rigorous and diverse learning opportunities at home.”

Classes will be taught by Asheboro City Schools teachers unless there is a special circumstance that requires otherwise. In those cases, a fully certified North Carolina teacher will be utilized. While the school day will be flexible, direct instructional times with teachers will be scheduled. The plan is to also offer some select non-core courses. The academy will follow district grading guidelines.

School-issued devices will be provided for those students who need them.
Plans are also being made to allow students to participate in selected school activities at their residential school if desired.  The application period will open this summer. More information will be available in the coming weeks and will be listed Asheboro City Schools website, under Remote Learning and Extended Learning Options page. The district is planning a series of informational sessions for interested staff and families.

Dr. Wendy Rich and the instructional team will lead the remote learning academy work.
