ACS Board Celebrates Dr. Worrell
Worrell and members of the board.
Dr. Worrell was recognized by the Asheboro City Board of Education for her tremendous leadership and service to Asheboro City Schools at a retirement celebration on Sunday afternoon at South Asheboro Middle School.

Speaking on behalf of the board of education, Madam Chair Gidget Kidd, shared many district accomplishments under Dr. Worrell’s leadership. In the past five years:

• ACS has been named a top ten school district (out of 115 across North Carolina) twice in the last three years based on achieving the highest graduation rates across the state.
• ACS was one of only three school districts across NC to meet or exceed expected growth two years in a row.
• District leaders have created and implemented two Spanish language immersion programs – one at Balfour Elementary School and the other at Lindley Park Elementary School.
• The number of Advanced Placement opportunities has grown tremendously at Asheboro High School to include AP Research and the AP Diploma.
• ACS has partnered with Randolph Community College, Randolph County School System, and the local business community to develop three pathways in the Pathways to Prosperity partnership.
• District leaders have worked tirelessly to renovate and restore one of the community’s longest standing structures – the Asheboro Female Academy.
• Dr. Worrell has led the largest capital improvement project in the district’s history – the Asheboro High School Construction Project.

Kidd said, “You have tirelessly given your time and resources to the students, staff, and families of Asheboro City Schools. While your accomplishments are many, your lasting legacy will be your determination and steadfast efforts to ensure all students receive the highest quality education and leave our district prepared to be productive global citizens.”

Dr. Worrell was also recognized by Mr. Lennit Bligen who presented a token of appreciation on behalf of the East Side Local Development Corporation. Dr. Worrell will retire from Asheboro City School on June 30.
