North Asheboro Middle School(NAMS) will celebrate 50 years of serving students on Friday, April 26 with a special anniversary program and a light reception. The community is invited to attend the celebration which will take place from 1- 3 p.m. in the NAMS gymnasium. Former NAMS students are encouraged to attend and share some of their favorite past-times at the school.
“Starting April 22, we are planning a week-long celebration in honor of NAMS’ 50th birthday,” said Ms. Candace Call, principal of North Asheboro Middle School. NAMS opened in 1968, so we are having a ‘Dress –like-1968 day,” a tie-dye-shirt day, and we are ending the week with a Sock Hop on Friday evening. Our theme song for the celebration is “Everyday People” by Sly and the Family Stone, because at NAMS, we are everyday people. Our students and staff support one another in the classroom, in the hallways, on the playing field, and in the theatre,”
During this special anniversary event, guests will hear from Ms. Call, ACS superintendent Dr. Terry Worrell, student-body president Claudia Delgado, and former student Mr. Gralen Cranford. The program will also feature performances by the NAMS band and chorus, and dance-off competition for students. Following the program, guests will be invited to the NAMS cafeteria for a light reception where a memory display will be featured. Students in the school’s Mustache Fraternity, Lipstick Sorority, and Student Council will lead tours throughout the school during the reception.
