Isaac Martinez is a senior at Asheboro High School who has been with Asheboro City Schools since he joined us in fifth grade. Isaac attended Guy B. Teachey Elementary and South Asheboro Middle School and after graduation, plans to attend a four-year university to study exercise science. Isaac is a member of HOSA—Future Health Professionals, the National Honor Society, and DECA. He says that being a part of these clubs has helped him realize he has a passion for helping others.
Isaac’s parents came to the United States from Mexico when they were young adults and began a new life. Isaac says that his parents have done a good job of keeping him connected to his roots, even though living in America and learning about American culture was an adjustment for them. Isaac visited his family in Mexico for the first time two years ago where he saw his father’s side of the family, who lives in the city of Tijuana.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Isaac and his family attend local events like parades and festivals and they choose a weekend in the month to go and celebrate with the rest of his family. For Isaac, Hispanic Heritage Month is about recognizing his culture and ancestors.
He states, “What Hispanic Heritage Month means to me is recognizing the sacrifices my parents made to leave everything behind to give me and my siblings everything that they could.”
We are so happy to have Isaac as a part of our ACS family and we wish him luck on the rest of his senior year!
