McCrary Elementary Students Recommend Animals for Asia Continent

McCrary Elementary students share information about their zoo projects.

Second-grade students at McCrary Elementary School completed a project-based learning activity in which they researched and made recommendations to NC Zoo staff about animals to be selected in the facility’s new Asian continent. Students learned about the animals’ differing habitats, what they eat, and about the various things the animals need to survive. They also had to use their math skills to determine the cost of designing and building the animals’ exhibit. Students then had to write a persuasion paper convincing Zoo staff about why they should choose the specific animal they chose to research. During the presentations, Zoo staff member, Bob Langston, attended and shared with the students even more information about the animals the Zoo is considering to be on exhibit when the Asia continent opens. It was a great learning experience for the students!
