ASHEBORO - After nearly two full days of nail biting excitement, Salem Lee, student-athlete from Asheboro High School landed a fifth-place win at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A Girls Golf Tournament. The tournament was played at Foxfire Resort and Golf in Pinehurst, NC on Monday and Tuesday, October 25 and 26.

At the state championship tournament, Lee earned 296 points and ended with a score of 164. As a junior at Asheboro High School, Lee says she is not ready to put her clubs up just yet.

“Making it this level - the state championship - is a huge honor and I’m grateful to have had the chance to compete against some of the best golfers in high school athletics this past week. I have had so much fun and hope to be here again next year. I’m especially thankful for the support of my teammates and Coach Heather Norris. She has pushed me to realize my full potential and helped me to further develop my skills and natural ability. Thank you Coach Norris!,” said Lee.

In addition to her fifth-place win, Lee won the Mid-Piedmont Championship Conference Tournament at Winding Creek Golf Club with a score of 77 and she was named the Mid-Piedmont 3A Player of the Year. She and fellow teammate, Emma Dobbins, were both selected for the Mid-Piedmont Championship All-Conference Team. The Lady Blue Comets captured second place overall in the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament.

“I couldn’t be happier for Salem. She is a talented young woman who has the drive, ambition, and determination to continue honing her skills. The Lady Blue Comets have had an outstanding season. It’s always hard to see it come to an end, but I look forward to working with the ladies in the spring so that we can prepare for another great golf season,” said Asheboro High School Golf Coach, Health Norris.
