In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are recognizing Hispanic and Latino members of the ACS community. Today, we highlight Gonzalo Soto Hurtado who is an IT Specialist for the district. Gonzalo attended McCrary Elementary, NAMS, and AHS. He attended Randolph Community College and then NC A&T State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in information technology. Fun Fact: Gonzalo has been fortunate to visit his parent's homeland in Zacatecas, Mexico over 10
times since he was eight years old.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life, and how have they impacted your understanding of your heritage?
My biggest influences are my parents. They came to this country to give me a better future and taught me that hard work can help you overcome any obstacles. Their sacrifices gave me pride in our heritage and encouraged me to make the most of opportunities. Their dedication inspires me to honor my background as I create my own journey.
Can you recommend any books, music, or films that you feel beautifully represent Hispanic and Latino culture?
Regional Mexican music is my favorite, especially artists like Junior H, Luis R Conriquez, and Peso Pluma. They represent our culture through their music, sharing stories that reflect our experiences and values while connecting to audiences of all ages.
What advice would you give to young people who are trying to find their voice in today’s world?
Be yourself and be proud of who you are. In today’s busy world, where everyone feels pressure to fit in, it’s important to figure out who you are and what you believe. Surround yourself with people who support and challenge you to grow, and don’t be afraid to fail, as it’s part of learning and finding your voice. Most importantly, use your voice to make a positive impact, no matter how big or small.
