ASHEBORO - Ten residents of the Asheboro City Schools district have applied for the vacancy seat on the Asheboro City Board of Education.
Ten eligible applicants include the following Asheboro residents: Jennyfer Bucardo of 2491 Whirlwind Lane; Mikayla Cassidy of 725 South Main Street, 2B; Hilda DeCortez of 1591 E. Allred Street; Maria Delgado of 915 Worth Street; Todd Dulaney of 147 S. Randolph Avenue; Kevin Garcia of 512 Kelly Circle; David Lambert of 1214 Canterbury Trail; Samara Martinez Arredondo of 897 Breeze Hill Road; Joel McClosky of 875 Parkview Ave; and Brad Thomas of 2600 Old Lexington Road. An eleventh applicant was deemed ineligible due to living outside of the district.
The ad hoc committee will meet September 27, 2024 at 12:00 pm to review applications in the Professional Development Center, 211 W. Walker Ave. The Board’s ad hoc committee members are Dr. Beth Knott, Hailey Lee, and Ryan Patton; Board Chair Michael Smith serves as an ex officio member. Interviews will take place October 1-4. All meetings are open to the public.
The seat is vacant due to the resignation of Gustavo Agudelo who has moved out of state for work. Mr. Agudelo’s term was set to expire in 2025; the appointed member will serve until the next election in 2025.
In accordance with Board policy, the ad hoc committee will make a recommendation to the Board at their regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 pm. The appointed board member will take the oath of office at the November 14 Board of Education Meeting.
