Hours/Schedule

easy section The school media center maintains an open access policy.  Students may visit to exchange books, browse, read, study, explore, research, or work on small group projects and activities. Open circulation hours are 7:30 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. daily. Afternoon checkout will be available from 1:50 P.M. to 2:20 P.M on days 5-8 of the Encore Rotation. Students may visit the media center during these times with the permission of their teacher and a media center pass.

Our Collection

work tables As a library, we boast a collection of over 10,000 books!  Our holdings include a large number of children's books, DVDs, reference materials, and computer software.  We welcome you to come in at any time to borrow a book to use with your child at home.  Our school also subscribes to a number of periodicals such as: Sports Illustrated for Kids, American Girl, and others.  High quality online resources are available at www.ncwiseowl.org .   NC WiseOwl’s subscription databases provide access to articles from thousands of magazines, from online encyclopedias and reference sources. Using WiseOwl for online research places you in a safer, advertising-free environment with age-appropriate information and tools that assist with the research process. Multimedia resources such as SmartBoards, computers, scanners, digital cameras, FLIP video cameras, and AlphaSmarts are also available for use by students.  Individual laptops are available to students in grades 4 and 5 for classroom instruction, research, and project based learning opportunities. 

Circulation / Material Checkout

circulation desk - All materials are checked out / scanned at the circulation desk on the computer.
- Students should provide their “library number” at the circulation desk when checking out materials. Students will be issued a library card at the beginning of the year.
- Students in Grades K-2 are allowed to borrow 2 books at a time.
- Students in Grades 3-5 may borrow 3 books at a time.
- The loan period for materials is 2 weeks. 
- Reference materials (encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.) may be checked out for one night.  Some reference materials may be restricted to media center use only.
- Periodicals may be checked out from the media center.
- All students are responsible for any books or magazines checked out in their names. 
- Items should be returned to the “Book Drop” or designated place so that they will be correctly and promptly checked in.

Library Catalog

computer station Our media center has a web-based, online library catalog that may be used to locate resources.  Students may access Teachey’s Destiny Media Catalog at http://destiny.asheboro.k12.nc.us/.  A Destiny link can also be found on the Teachey media page.  Students are taught to use our Destiny Media Catalog during media lessons.  However, students are encouraged to access and utilize Destiny from home as well.

Overdue / Lost / Damaged Items

fiction Library users are responsible for the loss or damage of materials in their possession.  Money for lost or damaged materials can be collected throughout the school year, but is usually delayed until the end of the year, especially for lost items.  Often missing items resurface. If fines are assessed, parents will be notified of replacement costs for lost / damaged materials.

 Overdue notices will be distributed each 6 weeks during the school year.  Students who fail to return overdue materials will not be allowed additional checkouts until materials are returned.
