ASHEBORO
– Asheboro City Schools hosted the annual Battle of the Books competition on Monday,
February 26 at South Asheboro Middle School. North and South Asheboro Middle
Schools went to head-to-head in one of the most exciting academic competitions
of the year. In the end it was South Asheboro Middle School who came out on top
with a score of 111 to North Asheboro Middle School’s score of 86.
Individual
team members from the South Asheboro Middle School team included: Mel Adames;
Olga Dumeh; Evie Surratt; Tess Moody; Thalya Letterlough; Addison Trogdon;
Fiona Wolfe-Roberts; Piper Westhoff; Max Raya Przybylowski; Patrick Piansay;
Lily Charlesworth; and Brandon Flores Perez. The team alternates were: Gabby
Santos; Sara Cornelison; Karis Rowland; Emma Dobbins; and Carson Fields. The
team was led by Ms. Julia Dawson, Ms. Kim Hoffman, and Ms. Heather Norris.
Battle
of the Books teams are formed early in the school year in order to begin
preparing the Battle of the Books competition. Middle school students and their
coaches receive a listing of books in which they could potentially be tested
during competitions.
This
year, the North Carolina School Library Media Association list of books
