Advanced Placement Scholar Celebration

On Wednesday, December 19, the community is invited to Asheboro High School for the Asheboro City Schools Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) Scholar Celebration. The event will take place at 4 p.m. and a light reception will follow in the school’s media center.

“Achieving Advanced Placement Scholar status takes tremendous dedication and hard work on the part of our students, staff, and faculty,” said Dr. Terry Worrell, Superintendent for Asheboro City Schools. “This year, we have added to the Advanced Placement Scholar Wall, which serves a permanent reminder of our students’ successes. We wish to inspire all students and educators to strive for excellence each day. We will continue to expand the exhibit year-by-year to celebrate the increasing number of students who are becoming Advanced Placement Scholars,” she added.

The AP Scholar Awards recognize high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on AP Exams. AP Scholar is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. AP Scholar with Honor is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. AP Scholar with Distinction is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

At the event, Dr. Worrell will say a few words about Advanced Placement Scholars and share a few comments about the recent addition of the Advanced Placement Capstone program. The AP Capstone was added to the repertoire of academic offerings at Asheboro High School last school year. The following students will be recognized:

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The Advanced Placement Scholar Wall unveiling ceremony is a community event to celebrate student successes in Asheboro.
