On Wednesday, December 19, the community is invited to Asheboro
High School for the Asheboro City Schools Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) Scholar Celebration. The event will take place at 4 p.m. and a light reception will follow in the school’s media center.
“Achieving Advanced Placement Scholar status takes tremendous dedication and hard work on the part of our students, staff, and faculty,” said Dr. Terry Worrell, Superintendent for Asheboro City Schools. “This year, we have added to the Advanced Placement Scholar Wall, which serves a permanent reminder of our students’ successes. We wish to inspire all students and educators to strive for excellence each day. We will continue to expand the exhibit year-by-year to celebrate the increasing number of students who are becoming Advanced Placement Scholars,” she added.

The
College Board's Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically
prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses
while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or
both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the 1.6
million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high
level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

Scholar Wall unveiling ceremony is a community event to celebrate student
successes in Asheboro.
