Two City schools teachers awarded Best Buy grant

Congratulations to Mrs. Julie Rachlin, Guy B. Teachey and Mr. Craig Card, North Asheboro Middle School, on each receiving a $2,000 Best Buy Teach Award.

Mrs. Rachlin, art teacher at Guy B. Teachey will use her grant award to promote the use of digital photography, storytelling, and movie-making in her art class with grades 2-5.

Mr. Card, social studies teacher at North Asheboro Middle School, will use his grant award to continue to add lap top computers to his classroom. This is Mr. Card’s second Best Buy grant and will bring the total number of lap tops in his room to seven. His goal is for every student in his class to have a lap top in an effort to integrate more researched based instruction into his class.

This year, Best Buy Teach Awards of $2,000 were given to 1,300 schools to sustain or enhance existing educational programs.

“Teachers are finding creative ways to engage students by using technology hands-on; we want to support their efforts by helping them enhance or expand these programs,” said Paula Prahl, vice president, public affairs, Best Buy Co., Inc. “We know that schools are the cornerstones of these communities where our employees, customers, and their families live and work.”
