Poe named ACS Principal of the Year

Dr. David Poe, principal of Donna Lee Loflin School, has been selected as the 2008 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Asheboro City Schools in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, The Principals’ Executive Program, and the Wachovia Corporation.

Poe now moves on to compete with other local award recipients from the Central Region of the state. After the state selection process is complete, one principal will be selected as the 2008 Wachovia Principal of the Year.

Dr. Poe is in his eighth year as principal at Donna Lee Loflin School; he came to Asheboro City Schools in July 2000 from Newton-Conover City Schools. Poe spent twelve years in Newton-Conover City Schools and has a total of 23 years experience as a school principal. Poe received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Guildford College, and Master of Education degree and Doctorate in Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This is the 24th year Wachovia Corporation has sponsored the financial awards. Each district principal of the year receives $200. The regional Wachovia Principals of the Year receive $1,500 for their school and $1,500 for personal use. The 2008 Wachovia Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for personal use.

Regional award recipients will be selected by March 2008 and the state Wachovia Principal of the Year will be announced in April 2008 at the state luncheon in Raleigh.
