Every student at Charles W. McCrary will receive a new book on December 19th during a special RISE (Reading Is Success in Education) celebration. This is the second RISE book give-away coordinated by Julie Van Dam, fourth grade teacher at the school. The first RISE event was held at the end of the school last year.
 
In order to give every student a new book, Ms. Van Dam held two fundraisers at McCrary and had community support in the form of monetary gifts or auction items from Kiwanis, Asheboro Health and Fitness, Dish’n, Hop’s Bar-B-Que, Asheboro Florist, Burge Florist, Papa John’s Pizza, Video Spectrum, The Learning Connection, and Olde Town Deli.
 
The goal is to raise enough money to purchase 1000 books during the school year, with plans to host another book give-away in the spring.
