Beitzel earns position in Macy’s Great American Marching Band

Dave Beitzel, a senior trombone player and student at Asheboro High School, has been chosen to participate in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band and will perform in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Co-Director of Bands Suzanne Benhart stated “this is a singular honor for a singularly outstanding young man. His musicianship is exceeded only by his character.” 

The Great American Marching Band is made up of the finest high school musicians from the United States and includes students from each of the 50 states. Beitzel will travel to New York on November 19th to learn a new show with new music in a matter of a few days. The band will then be featured as part of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and will perform for an estimated 2.5 million live spectators along the parade route and 50 million television viewers around the world. The band will be led by Dr. John Woods, director of the famed Ohio State University Marching Band and Dr. Richard Good, Director of Bands at Auburn University.
 
Beitzel, the son of David and Crisanta Beitzel, was nominated and, ultimately, chosen for this prestigious group through his selection to the 11-12 All-State Honors Wind Ensemble in the spring of 2011.Dave’s many musical honors include membership in county, district and all-state concert and jazz bands and, recently, winning first prize in the Piedmont Wind Symphony concerto competition. He plans to pursue music performance in college.
